Feature request: ability to change midi channels on the fly

I am putting a feature request per Dmitri's suggestion to see if this is something that would be helpful to others.

I use Megadrum as (the most awesome) midi controller for my live Zimbabwean style marimba band. We control clip launching with Ableton with it. The problem is Ableton doesn't have an easy way to quickly move from song to song live on stage. The only solution is to put ALL your songs into one big set. As I said-we use the megadrum triggers live on stage to trigger clips, and unfortunately, all of our 32 Megadrum outputs get used up very quickly. I want to build a fully midi controlled marimba next, but I'm screwed because I'm out of channels.

Program changes don't work with the midi mapping in ableton. This is a solution that I am requesting that would HUGELY augment the capabilities of the Megadrum:

1) The ability to assign one of our 32 outputs to be a "Global Channel change" trigger. Hit that trigger, and then the next output that you hit (1-16) would change the master channel you are sending your midi notes to. Hit that "global channel change" trigger again and you save the change (this would avoid accidents on stage). Imagine the possibilities! You would immediately essentially add 16 new "drum maps" to your set. You can also very easily change to different instrument sounds in seconds!

And I could finally play through our whole set without staring at a computer screen for 2 minutes while fans are just standing there looking at us!

Thoughts?
