REQUEST: MIDI and audio of snare triggering via MegaDrum

Postby gastric » Fri Aug 08, 2008 3:35 pm

I would like to request MIDI and audio output of snare triggering via MegaDrum. Ideally those that share the output can provide the following:

* Type of snare trigger used. DIY (including materials and construction used), or brand and model of the retail product used.
* MegaDrum trigger parameters used.
* Output for a gravity drop test (drop stick, let it bounce naturally to capture the initial peak and subsequent low-velocity bounces)
* Output for both low and high velocity single strikes
* Most importantly - output for tight fast rolls. This is the critical part that generates problems for some drum triggers and modules, not being able to capture every single trigger during tight rolls. Obviously problems with triggering could easily be the trigger itself, which is why I requested details on the trigger and module settings. I would also expect this to be the most difficult for users to produce as it requires a drummer with enough skill to actually play a tight fast roll without missing beats during the actual playing part. I certainly can't do it. ;)

Reviewing this output would be extremely beneficial. Particularly as verification the MegaDrum can produce proper triggering for all manner of snare performances. Review of the audio is excellent, but review of the raw MIDI data is also extremely beneficial as it's easiest to see if there's low-velocity mis-triggers generated along with the actual hits.

Many thanks to those that response and share their output for review.

You mean you want to us to record some snare drum playing with our choice of sampler, then give you that and the associated MIDI data? I can probably do that within a few days; my snare is the drum I have working the best with Megadrum and BFD2, but it's still in need of a goodly amount of tweaking...

Correct. Play your snare in whatever VSTi you use. Record both the raw MIDI and the actual VSTi output. You could do this in most recorder programs like Reaper http://www.reaper.fm/ which can record MIDI to a track and let you hear the VSTi output real-time while you play and record then. Then render the track to a WAV once done recording. There could be a better more streamlined way to accomplish the MIDI/audio output, but I have limited experience in that arena. But the end result would ideally be two files. MIDI and WAV/MP3. I suppose only the MIDI is really required, then we could apply it to our own VSTi to hear the resulting triggering. But I figure why not request both? :)
