And pay particular attention to step 2.
Be sure it is actually set to 64000 and not to 6400 since the input field shows only 4 characters

This OUTPUT buffer size issue has been the most common reason for the failure you describe when using MIDI-OX.

have double and triple checked it's set for 64thousand each and everytime i have tried updating in midiox.

Here are a couple of things that I would try. First as suggested before, try a parallel programmer and go back to the basics. They are very simple to make and bypass a lot of the issues. The other thing I would do is completely remove MidiOx and MidiYoke from your computer and reload them. I don't know that this will make a difference, but it is what I would try before I pulled out all of my hair.

Make sure you read through the instructions very slowly and are not misreading or skipping a part that you think you already have a firm grasp on.

Keep in mind that this is a DIY project that is always being improved and updated by a couple of very dedicated people. They have never claimed that it is perfect and will work exactly as expected every time you try to make changes to it. And no, you don't have to take every update. I am several updates behind and mine works just fine. Just be patient and look at everything as logically as you can. Sometimes frustration can be the determining factor, maybe put it up for a day or two and come back to it if you get to feeling like you want to hammer it! :D

Good luck,
Jman

so i uninstalled MIDIOX and MCT

and reinstalled them.

first i ran the command line update/tool.
this is what it looks like when updating using the command line update firmware tool (quite a cool little thing i think).

Image
it certainly looks like it has been updated and the previous firmware was erased.

but after the update AND erase of firmware (using the "e" command line) this is what it still says on the megadrum

(it says "Send SyseX now" if you can't see it...bad lighting + iphone camera = crappy photos...)

then i installed MCT again from the install.jnlp file.

and in MCT it looks like the old firmware is still there.

still not working.

I don't know if MCT was ever fixed to update the FW. I guess the next step would be to build a parallel programmer and try the method decribed HERE.

Doesn't look too good, I'm afraid.

USB-lydenhed - thats for certain your MegaDrum module?
If it is, then it sure does look like it was successful...
Kind of an odd reference to the device though, how did that come about I wonder?

I was never able to get the MCT to do a firmware update, but apart from the learning curve I didn't have any difficulty using MIDI-OX. I haven't tried dmitri's new updater utility.

dmitri is supposed to be back today, although with the weather they've been having in Europe I suppose he could be delayed a few days. Hopefully he'll have a fresh perspective and something to suggest.

Other countries than the U.S. do exist - lydenhed == sound unit in danish.

Thank you very much for that information :-) I've tried to use an online translator but it did not give a translation for this particular word.

Are you *just* using MCT to verify whether the new firmware was installed or not? Have you tried just looking at the version string provided by the MegaDrum itself? MegaDrum reports the Firmware version on the LCD maybe the fw update is working and MCT isn't.

LMAO - indeed!
I hadn't even considered that, thinking that if I built one myself maybe there was an option to name it whatever I wanted...

Thanks pfhor making me feel like an ass!
not to mention the chuckle...

Cheers!
