Which circuit are you using? Dmitri's or Synthex? If Synthex, which version?

Your hi hat controller should be wired to a stereo jack which will then plug into your hi-hat controller input. The schematic is pretty self explanatory. The wires connect as shown. starting from the top down on J1 would be ring, tip, and sleeve would be the bottom.

i'm using dimitri's design...what i can't understand is this connection...is there suppose to be a switch inside the MD in between the board and the input?..if so...how will it be switched if it's within the module?...

It is the input selector. You can use a jumper to select which type of input is used. There is a regular, low-impedance input, and there's a high-impedance input (the one that doesn't go through the MUX chain).

Here's the top view of the analogue board. HHP#2 designates the high-impedance alternative input:

This connection diagram may also be useful to those who wish to design their own layout based on Dmitri's layout (i.e. make it, as it should be, 100% compatible). Here's a slightly bigger version.
