adding macro knobs

Postby nigelfelony » Sun Feb 13, 2011 5:42 am

anyone know how macro knob encoders could be part of the megadum design in the interest of having some knobs on my controller device that could control the macro controls in Ableton. -Z

Not with encoders but MegaDrum can send MIDI Program Change messages - see "Special" in http://www.megadrum.info/content/pads-settings.

I understand now how megadrum could be used to do this..... via a pair of switches that bank up or down a programmed limit value. There is no clicking encoder out there that could function the same was as a pair of switches? -Z

In the past I tried to find such a switch which is operated by rotating a knob but I couldn't find any available anywhere.

I used this 3 position rotary center spring return action switch from ELECTROSWITCH (pt# E3G0603N-2) on a different project, see link:
http://www.electro-nc.com/rotaryus/e3.pdf

I got it from Digi-Key (part number E3G0603N-2-ND) for $32 (USD).
Now they want $47.70, see link:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea ... 0603N-2-ND

I know this is overkill, however it might point you in the right direction if you really wish to use a rotary switch.
