Can megadrum do drum mallet continuum vibration effect in cymbal?

I will try to explain what really i want to say in this question because i dont know the name of this "feature" in english.

What im trying to say is if megadrum is capable of make "that" (i dont know the name in english) effect of orchestra percussion when the percussionist use the drum mallets (i dont know if this is the exact name in english of those drum sticks with some kind of cotton in the head) to make a repeated movement in the cymbal that generate some different vibration and consequently some diferent sound like a "shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" in the cymbal.

Is megadrum capable of identify and execute this feature??

Sorry for bad english explanation, i really hope you guys understand me, thanks in advance.

Can you post a video of someone doing that thing you talk about? That would make it much more clear.

Megadrum will most likely process note velocity & duration associated with that playing style. The question is does your drum module/machine/sampler have sounds/samples that are appropriate for that playing style? I believe that would require a sound/sample with a lot of sustain and a very mild attack.

Here is the video Cyberfly -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efFHP6pO7DE

Jump the video to 1 minute and 5 seconds and you will see.

To kupooglop maybe this vst works -> http://www.midi-classics.com/f/f26820.htm
but unfortunately is discontinued. I on my work now so i can't look for others vst right now. but i want to know if (considering that a VST exist) Megadrum is capable of "execute" this playing style.

Thanks for the fast answer people. Thank you very much.

the effect that you're describing can be generally referred to as a "swell". Being able to recreate it is more of a limit of whatever sound source/VST is being used. If the VST only has samples of cymbals being struck with sticks, then that's all you're going to get. Most will have multiple samples of very light to very hard strikes, so most will find that for general kit playing that is close enough. Creating good sounding swells has been a topic of a lot of discussion for a lot of edrummers because not even the high end Roland and Yamaha modules produce it really well.

If creating a really good natural sounding swell is what you're looking for then I'd imagine that if the VST is able to produce the sound you want then it can probably be accomplished with the Pressroll note for the cymbal. That's kind of a guess though.

I agree with dschrammie. You will need a sample of that playing style and use MD to trigger it. I recommend E-Mu sampler.

http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp ... v=features

I have one of their original hardware samplers. It provides waveform editing that allows you to modify the soundwaves. One could "trim" the initial stick strike portion of a cymbal sample and "smooth" it out. Then one could use the pressroll feature to obtain the desired effect. E-mu's samples are the best that I have used, so I wouldn't be surprised if their orchestra sample library doesn't have a "swell" sample.

Thank you very much for the detailed answers: dschrammie and kupooglop.
Unfortunately i couldn't answer earlier.

Well i when i click to buy e-mu symphonic i get "out of stock". Do you guys have other sampler that is so good (to make swell) or at least close to this sampler?

and about the waveform editing (to trim and smooth the samples), can i do that with software instead of hardware?

thanks in advance.

You still have the possibility of bying Battery3 and make your own sample. On my configuration, This soft isn't very stable (but I have to make some new tests with my new sound card) but it's the only soft that lets you use your own sample with a huge flexibility (not like BFD, forget trying to use it with more that hat one articulation for each instrument ).

Ok, thank you, Sylv1co.

Do you guys think that superior drummer 2.0 or EZ Drummer can do something like that? If not, i'm going to buy Battery 3.

Thank you all.

I use Bias Peak-le to do waveform editing. The minimum you need is peak le to edit the soundwave file. The web site says you can download peak-le as a free trial.

I would imagine there are other software wavetable editors out there, but I mention peak-le because I use it.
