can I use a simple momentary sustain pedal as a hi-hat cntrl

I know I can do this with my Trigger I/O, but it doesn't work with the MD, I'm assuming it has to do with polarity and jumper settings that I keep seeing on the input PCB's. I'm not ready to invest in a good Hi Hat controller , but I'm fine with the piano sustain type pedal for now. Is there anything I can do to get it working until I get the PCB for the inputs?
I also have a Boss Volume CC pedal, but it has a very limited CC range, not sure if I can utilize this as well.

Anybody? can I jump any of the wires for pin 2,3,4 on the connector?
I want to be able to use a standard keyboard sustain momentary pedal for the HH controller.

Help
