DO I need to buy software to trigger drum sounds?
Are there any freeware options?
I would be willing to use free samples...I'm just not sure what software to use.
Is that what edrum is for?

You will definately need a software/hardware sampler or synthie that takes the midi notes created by megadrum and generates your drum sound audio.
There is some freeware, I only know LoopAZoid (http://www.nexoft.de/products/instruments/loopazoid/LoopAZoid.htm) which is a nice tool, made by the team that also created the wellknown 'NI Battery' sampler. It supports own wav file loading and mute groups (important for multiple sounds on one cymbal pad, e.g. hihat). I'm just not sure if it supports multi-layered notes, i.e. letting you have many different sounds for one pad over the volume spectrum.

As far as I am aware there are no major freeware software samplers available, although me + PCTroll are thinking of starting an opensource sampler, so you could either buy your own or watch this space!

There is this that I found: http://making-music.blogspot.com/2008/05/drum-sampler-superdrumfx-13-pc-free.html, obviously made on SynthEdit, although to be fair I haven't tried it myself!

If you're looking to buy, I can highly recommend Native Instruments Battery 3 (if you're technically minded) http://www.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=battery3, or if you're looking for a simpler solution, then take Toontrack's EZDrummer http://www.toontrack.com/ezdrummer.asp. Both sound and work great, but come at a cost!

NDK used to have a free version of their kit called ns7free that was about 200 MB... it is now unavailable, but they will soon be releasing an improved version.

It's a ready-to-go VST drumsampler like EZdrummer, with impressive sound quality and a nice user interface.
Right now it's free, but they're thinking about raising a fee, so get it fast! =)

Hey guys thanks alot.
I have a good deal of knowledge on software, after all I run my own COmputer forum.
But I've ever ventured into this kinda stuff.

I'm thinking I'm going to try Bluenoise, it seems to be the best, have you ever used it?
And I just want to make sure..Is there any way to replace the samples in it? Or add more?
I'm just trying to trigger my kick drum as of now, so i isn't all too important, but nice to know.

I guess the main problem with it is getting good quality drum samples.

I see EZdrummer recommended more then Superior drummer? Is there any reason that Superior Drummer is not worthy? I was thinking of getting Superior Drummer my self I watched quite a few video's on it and it seems to be quite nice.
