Feature Suggestion for Presets in Megadrum Manager

Hi,

I'm not sure who writes / maintains Megadrum Manager, Dmitri is it also you?

It's a fine piece of software and pretty intuitive to use.

I have a suggestion for extending the functionality which would be very powerful and hopefully simple to deliver.

It's the concept of having preset pad settings (. syx files) stored in a folder as a subdirectory of the Megadrum Manager application folder.

Then in the user interface a dropdown list could be populated with the names of all the files found in the directory.

The user then can chose to apply the preset settings to a pad (head / rim) pair by selecting the preset and click an 'Apply' button.

See my mock up attached.

In this way a library of presets could be built up, or even shipped with MDM, that would give novice megadrum users the opportunity of obtaining settings for common pads and cymbals.

Users could also create their own presets as syx files and load them into the preset folder.

MDM is maintained by Dmitri. Good idea! If I could dream a little bit...The syx files should remain on megadrum.info...and been read from MDM on the fly...and showed in a dropdown box in MDM. I think a description field is necessary to determine like if a resistor is needed, which MD type of box, firmware ver etc it is good for(ARM or ATMega) and if it any other needs to use the actual settings. However...these kind of changes do take time to implement...Dmitri is working very hard "as is" for the MD forum...but we could dream! I had a nice dream of a special function in MDM...which Dmitri recently was so kind to implement!

Hopefully this nice change becomes available to you all in the next release of MDM! :-)

I have tried to store a lot of syx files on my website...please visit http://powerhell.wordpress.com/about/zo ... d-library/

Best regards

Sorry Ang77 I don't agree with you on that one. It would mean that the PC would have to be networked and also it would mean users could not create their own presets.

Anyway, the idea is out there now, hopefully it could become a reality at some stage.

I created MDM (and MDCommander for that matter) as a tool to access all of MegaDrum configuration settings without touching MegaDrum itself.
I have hardly any time left to add any "fancy" features in it but if anybody is interested in improving it I can provide the current source code.

Neither of those are true, it'd be easy enough to have an official repository you sync with and submit to and other such functionality. Before MDM came out I worked on my own version with exactly this in mind plus a much more streamlined GUI and other things but my programming interest waned and I never did anything more with it. As with Dmitri I'd be happy to share my files as well, they should hopefully be around on a drive here somewhere.

Hi.

Giving it a second thought...load/save the syxfiles today in MDM is very near to the functionality you search for mr foobar. Ok, it could be nicer presented in MDM...but if you click load...you will be able to select a syx file from a directory, named e.g. like PD85.syx.

I am guessing that presenting the filenames from a certain directory and present it directly in a MDM dropdown...would not be rocket science to accomplish...and when you click on it...it loads on the actual e-pad. But the function is basicly the same as the current load/save function in mdm.

My thoughts are more of a general problem, I would argu that very few of us in the forum have uploaded/shared their working syx files...thats why i was dreaming of a syx library in the cloud...yes, you need a network...but i really hope that you sometimes connect your PC to the network and download the latest MD firmware and MDM version. If that's the case...the syx library could be shared...and your settings in your local library could be synced to the public syx library and vice versa.
