Questions about the Atmega MCU

I have another question, but this one insn't about the MCUs: how can I connect a single piezo to test the digital board without building an entire analogue board? I want to be sure that the first is working before spend time and money to make the second

If you have this little confidence in the quality of your work I suggest buying a Synthex kit.

I don't want to waste all the component that I already have, and now I haven't the money to buy an entire Synthex kit. I am a student man, not a retired person in searching of a hobby

I don't get the differences between an Atmega32-16PU and an another Atmega32 but with a different number writed before PU, can anyone explain to me what the number stands for?

I think it's linked to the speed, just to give you an answer, and that's why I think you should choose the right crystal. Just check:
Atmega 16 pu
Atmega 20 pu

Maximum speed for Atmega32 is 16MHz. Atmega324(p)-20PU and Atmega644(p)-20PU can do 20MHz.

If you are going to spend the money on an atmega go for the atmega644-20pu with the 20.00mhz crystal, it will give you more drum maps and configuration slots for saving when only using 32 inputs with it than atmega32. You will get the capability to handle all 56 inputs megadrum is currently offering but wont be able to save as much into memory. Atmega32-16pu can only give you a maximum of 40 inputs with alot less saving capacity. Hope this helps, Kurt.
