i can't update firmware after connecting the analogue board...and no midi activity...huhu!! :cry: ..what could be the problem?..

Can you update firmware with the analogue board disconnected? If so, look for problems on the analogue board (short-circuits are most likely to cause this).

i can't...i'm only updating using mct because i didn't connect rotary controls and midi in/out...any suggestions on how i can fix or possible problems...i'm sure there is no shorts nor breaks in my board...

Use MIDI OX or Dmitri's firmware update application. You'll find instructions on using MIDI OX here.

And of course you do need to connect at least basic controls like left, right, up and down buttons. Otherwise, you will not be able to update firmware via MCT/MIDI OX/etc. However, you can program ATMega with the provided firmware HEX file and some programmer (like PonyProg via a simple ISP cable).

do i still need the 6n138n ic when i connect controllers?..for what are the encoders?..

No, you don't need 6n138n for the controls to work. And you don't need the encoders (i.e. they are optional advanced controls used to speed up the set up process).

just connected the controls...still can't update firmware..when i connect MD via usb...when i press left key it only blinks for a while...when i press down or right the light stays on...is this normal?..i also get this message in application log when updating...

Blinking LED while LEFT is pressed is normal.

After booting MD with left key pressed, press UP to choose crystal frequency. Then press DOWN and send the erase.syx file via MIDI OX. Then send the desired-firmware.syx file.

All this might be difficult with no visual feedback from the LCD.
