Why? I use IDE cables too and it works well.

Make sure they are the 40 wire ide cables and not the high density eighty wire cables.

Thanks guys.

Ah, the IDE cables I have are the HDD variety; there is the problem.

Regarding the pin array, I am still confused where it is to be used.

The pin array is used on 32 inputs board, for impedance and polarity selection.

Thanks- that is a great upgrade from the wire jumpers.

My boards are all populated now and the joints are looking right. I found the 15w iron was great for for the smaller, individual traces, but for anything on the ground plane I had to use the 25w iron.

I cleaned the flux from the input boards with 99% isopropyl alcohol which ended up making them "sticky"; What do you recommend to clean them?

That's about as good as it gets. Try cleaning it again with the isopropyl and an old toothbrush.(use plenty and scrub hard, you wont hurt the components) and then rinsing in water. Dry it well, I usually use an air compressor and blow all of the water off until it is dry. Shouldn't be sticky then.

FWIW, I was having trouble getting all of my inputs to respond after build up and found the solution here:

http://www.megadrum.info/content/config ... -and-hints

Hold RIGHT key while powering up (hold key through entire cycle) to reset MD to default settings.

Problem solved!

P.S.
Synthex, the blue LED included in your most excellent kit is annoyingly bright; is there any way to dim it?

Thanks! :D
