List your pedal settings.

Type: F.Contr (when set to Pot the MIDI LED stays lit after powering up, but the open pedal position is detected correctly when the pedal gets pressed once)
Curve: Strong2
ChkDelay: 0
AltIn: Yes (the sustain pedal doesn't work with No at all)
CC Value: 4
LvlsRevers: No
EnSoftChick: No
LevelsAuto: No
LowLevel: 872
HiLevel: 1023
OpenLvl: 8
ClosedLvl: 100
ShrtChkTh: 115
LngChkTh: 16
HHInput: 2
BowSO: 42

The note assignments have no significance I guess.

I understood you didn't use a pedal at all. If you do and set AltIn to Yes then you must connect a pedal to a high impedance pedal input.

LevelsAuto: No
LowLevel: 872
HiLevel: 1023

If you don't use the HiHat pedal input you should set these as I suggested in viewtopic.php?p=15753#p15753
If you do use the pedal, before these settings do anything useful the AltIn setting must be set so that it matches which input the pedal is connected to: high or low impedance.

Initially I didn't, but plugging in a sustain pedal was the only way to stop the CC flood.

I unplugged the pedal, changed AltIn to No, LowLevel to 49 and HiLevel to 50. Now it seems to work, there are no foot controller messages any more, but the LCD shows a nearly closed HH position. I don't mind this, but earlier (with the older fw) it used to show a fully open pedal. Is this normal?

It is normal. I've changed LCD handling some time ago so that not to waste MCU cycles to update the pedal VU meter if there is no change in position. When MegaDrum exits the menu it sets the pedal VU meter to 2 bars and if there are no pedal position changes it stays like this.

Cool, now this one got sorted out, thanks.

Why 2 bars? Maybe setting pedal display to full open by default would be better?

If set to full open it still will not reflect the real position. In fact all VU meters are set to 2 bars on the menu exit but all pad VU meters are decremented quickly whereas the pedal VU meter stays the same until there is a change in the pedal position.

I'm also having trouble with my hi hat pedal. Hope you don't mind that I post it in this thread.

My MD keeps sending info on the hi hat open/closed position, the midi led is always on! In MCT I can see the value of the hi hat open/closed bar going crazy. It constantly jumps up and down by 1 to 3 units. For example: it jumps from 60 to 63, back to 60 then to 63 and so on.
This happens with my pedal connected and with only the cable in the hi hat input. But sometimes it stops going crazy until I move the pedal with my foot (up or down). Without a cable it doesn't go crazy.

When I set the type to pot there is no problem.

The pedal is made with a 20k linear sliding resistor.

I'm running on the latest non-encrypted firmware, 2.8 syntex kit.

After playing with the open level and closed level I got the pedal working in Superior Drummer 2. I had a problem that it was making a chick all the time, because of the jumping. Now I can't make a chick anymore...

Pedal settings:
type: F.contr
Reverse Levels: no
Curve: S2 (curve doesn't have any effect on the jumping value)
Chick delay: 0
AltIn: No
CC Value: 4
Auto Levels: no
Low Level: 46
Hi Level 859
Open Level: 65
Closed Level: 110
Thres. Short: 115
Thres. Long: 16

How did you come up with these values?
