Miss Triggers and cross talk

Postby Venimal » Mon May 07, 2012 2:33 am

Hello,

So I have my snare drum constructed, although I am having issues with re-triggers and cross talk between my rim and head. I Can't seem to get rid of the cross talk no matter what I try, and before I take it apart and try to think of a way to isolate the platform from the cake pan, I though I would ask about if there is anything I can do in the MD.

Also, it seems weak in my oppinion. I have to really whale on the drum to get a louder note, and I turned the gain all the way up and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Any DIY Drop-in-cake pan people in here? and if so, I have 3 screws holding the platform up. Any suggestions on something I can get that would help deaden the vibrations traveling down to the peizo? The Head also triggers when I strike the rim, so that is another issue. Both are 27mm sensors.

You say you have a weak signal but at the same time you set HighLevel to maximum. No wonder you cannot get full strength MIDI signals.

See, that is the thing. I lowered it to next to zero, and there wasn't any effect.

Your pad is dual zone, isn't it? Why do you configure it as single zone?
Reset all settings to defaults, in particular Gain, Threshold, HighLevel Auto and HighLevel. Set the pad as dual piezo/piezo. Hit the head and the rim a few time very hard. What values do you get in HighLevel?

Small update, and I'll get back to your answer tonight when I get home.

However, I spent several hours playing with settings trying to make something different happen. Then this morning, I started up my computer to see that all the settings I had made to the MD didn't take. I pulled out my midi connection and set it to USB only, and made the changes I had made before. They started to take, and I got rid of the miss triggers. It is strange, it seems that I lose my connection to the MD from time to time, and settings just don't take.

Oh, I should also mention that after setting my high level down to about 600, I was getting better trigger hits, and a little bit more varied. Though at the same time, I was seeing inconsistencies with my hit values depending on where I hit. That leads me to believe two things. One, my cone is pressing up to hard against the head. Two, I should do a better job about keeping the tension even between all the lugs. So on the way home, I'm going to pick up some rubber washers and re-adjust the platform.
