Question about min scantime setting

Postby macca2004 » Wed Jul 08, 2009 4:24 pm

Dmitri,

Just trying to put things straight in my head about the min scantime setting.

I understand that it is the amount of time that MD "pauses" when it detects a signal greater than threshold level on that input before sending the "sample" onto the next stage.

I dont understand what you mean when you say that increasing min scan time will reduce level accuracy. What is your definition of "level accuracy"?

I have been using min scantime as part of the reducing retriggering process.

For example, retriggering very close to the intial strike can be controlled by a combination of retrigger and dynamic time/levels. However some retriggers occur quite late and increasing the retrigger and dynamic levels settings to "dampen" them makes acheiving fast rolls very difficult.

However I have found that reducing minscan time eliminates late retriggers but still enables fast rolls. I normally set minscan time to 0 and attempt a buzz roll....then I keep increasing min scantime until I can acheive a perfect roll. I have found this to be much lower than the default 20, in fact my DIY snare minscan time is set at 8.

Is there any problem in setting minscan so low?....

The maximum level (Tm) of an input signal is some time away from the moment the signal crossed the Threshold level(Tt). If Tm and Tt are further apart than MinScan/10 milliseconds MegaDrum will not register the signal level correctly.

Did you try Rettriger/DynLvl/DynTime with AltFalseTrSupp set to Yes?

Not really. If the pad produces a signal with a peak close to the start of the signl, in your case less then 0.8ms, it is perfectly ok.

Maybe it's my pad...but I have much better results with the original setting.

My settings are

Retrigger = 5
DynLvl/Time = 3/32
Scantime = 8

If I increase scantime to 20 I have to increase retrigger to 7 and reduce dynlvl to 1/32 to stop retriggers and then rolls are difficult, although general playing is good..

2. Introduced an alternative false triggering suppression algorithm. It can be enabled if 'AltFalseTrSupp' set to Yes in the menu. With this algorithm you may want to decrease 'Retrigger' by 2-4 and DynLvl by 1-2 compared to what you usually set them to. Based on feedback I may make changes to this algorithm in later versions so effect of XTalk, Retrigger/DynLvl/DynTime settings may change as well.

Did you take this note into account?

Yes...I tried all settings.

I get a weird latency type effect when using AltFalseTrSupp.

When letting the stick bounce against the head, hits continue after the stick stops bouncing and I can't seem to adjust it out. It's not a problem as the original mode works fine for me...

I'd be interested to know how many people use and benefit from this alternative trigger mode..

Same here. The old way works better for me.
